The London Cab Receives a Superchips Upgrade

The famous London Cab is going through some changes which would have been unimaginable in the past, as LTI, the company that produces it, is now owned by the Chinese carmaker Geely.

Another unexpected transformation for the LTI TX4 (the current version of the cab) is an ECU remap released by the British Superchips specialists.

The tuner strapped the vehicle to a dynamometer and measured its power and torque levels, registering a disappointing 103hp at 3,479 rpm and 265 Nm at 2,622 rpm. After playing with the Engine Control Unit, the TX4’s 2.5 liter four cylinder turbo diesel unit posted 127 hp at 3,479 rpm and 339 Nm at 2,352 (the decrease of the maximum torque rpm allows the drivers to change gears less frequently).

In addition to that, the Superchips upgrade improves the fuel efficiency of the TX4 by around 10 percent, thanks to the increased power & torque at smaller throttle openings. The conversion can be performed “in a matter of minutes”, is available for both manual & automatic versions of the vehicle and is priced at 445 pounds (VAT included).

Proving its diverse ECU reprogramming capabilities, Superchip’s latest release is designed for the most recent version of the iconic ‘black’ taxi cab, the LTI TX4, which is powered by a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder turbo diesel engine. The brief for Superchips’ Buckingham-based technicians was to deliver additional driveability and economy; two particularly important parameters for a vehicle that is being driven for hours at a time through some of the most crowded streets in Europe,” stated the press release.
