Apple rolled out iOS 13.5 only a few days ago for all supported iPhones, but this new update didn’t bring anything new for CarPlay users.
But as it turns out, the update to the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system is actually causing an unexpected audio change on Uconnect-powered cars.
More specifically, some users are complaining that after updating their iPhones and launching CarPlay, the volume is automatically reduced to a level that’s close to zero.
For example, a number of people complain that they’re no longer hearing anything, including alerts and even contacts they’re talking to on the phone. And while many believe this is something that iOS 13.5 broke down in CarPlay, it’s actually related to Uconnect and the volume level for alerts, phone calls and music.
So, if you notice anything unusual on a Uconnect car after updating the iPhone to iOS 13.5, the only problem is that the volume has been lowered for some reason close to zero or even to mute.
“Nothing is broken… there are 3 volume controls, phone calls, music and alerts... the update put my alert volume on zero! Hold the Siri button and turn the volume up while Siri is active, all of my alerts are audible again!” one user explains in a post on reddit.
As for new features coming to CarPlay, you really shouldn’t hold your breath for anything too major at this point. Apple is already focusing a lot on the next major iOS update, namely iOS 14, so iOS 13 currently receives only additional polishing here and there, with nothing big on the radar.
iOS 14, on the other hand, is likely to come with cool new stuff for CarPlay, including wallpapers. This update is projected to get the go-ahead for all supported iPhones in the fall of this year, but a preview version of the operating system should be released next month after the WWDC conference.
