The INEOS Grenadier is ready for America, the largest market for the model so far. First customers in the USA will be getting their cars in November.
INEOS has started production of the Grenadier for the North American market at the Hambach plant in France, the former smart production facility that the company bought from Mercedes-Benz in January 2021.
To convert the plant, INEO invested over 50 million euros ($5.3 million). The new plant features a new semi-automated printshop, a new fully-automated bodyshop, and a completely new quality center. The plant has been ramping up production in the past six months in order to keep up with the demand. The representatives of the company say they want to build the vehicles fast without compromising quality.
The first INEOS Grenadier for North America to roll off the assembly line is a Belstaff Fieldmaster edition in Scottish White.
The British carmaker has received more than 7,000 orders from the US. The figures turn the American market into the largest for the brand. In France, INEOS is producing vehicles that will be exported to five continents, which makes the INEOS CEO, Lynn Calder, say that the model is "truly a car for the world."
First customers in the US will have their car delivered in November, while the Canadians will be getting theirs starting January 2024. Headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, the North American division of INEOS is yet to announce the first appointed dealers.
North Americans have two engines to choose from, the only two powertrains that the Grendier currently comes with. There is a 3.0-liter inline-six petrol engine and a 3.0-liter inline-six diesel. The petrol version comes with 282 horsepower (286 PS) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque, while the diesel gets 245 horsepower (249 PS) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm). Both power plants are BMW-sourced.
The INEOS Grenadier makes it to the US with a starting price of $71,500, with the destination fee not included. The Trialmaster and Fieldmaster editions will both kick off at $79,190.
The lineup will soon grow in size, as INEOS will also roll out the fuel cell version, in the shape of the INEOS Grenadier Demonstrator FCEV, unveiled back in July at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
This one is also getting a BMW-sourced powertrain, set to integrate an electric motor mounted on the rear axle. It should be capable of producing 396 horsepower (401 PS), if we are to consider the figures of the iX5, that has recently completed extreme weather tests in the United Arab Emirates.
An electric Grenadier is also expected to enter production, but no sooner than 2026. The Grenadier EV will be manufactured in Graz, Austria, instead of Hambach, France.
Customer deliveries have already started in 20 markets, and the carmaker is planning to extend to 20 more if everything goes according to plan.
