It’s been a while since we went to Moscow (never, to be completely honest), but if we were to go there say next year, we wouldn't miss the Geek Picnic. The annual science and technology festival was quite a blast this weekend when among other robots the Hand of Man took its fair share of applauses.
We may have monster trucks around the US, but crushing old cars doesn’t necessarily need to be something related to the size of the exterminator. Thanks to modern technology, we can use anything to crush metal, and that’s exactly the idea US artist Christian Ristow had when he created a unique contraption he calls the Hand of Man.

Made of scrap metal, the creation is a 6,000 kg (13,227 lbs), 26-foot (8 meters) long hydraulically-actuated human hand and forearm that terminates anything it grabs.

The funny part is that there’s a glove device that controls it, which car destroyers use to enjoy some proper scrapyard time. Any movement in the “glove” controller is accurately reproduced on the large robot hand.

Wherever Ristow is taking his sculpture, he invites members of the public to insert their own hands into the controller. Through hydraulic technology, they are then able to effortlessly lift, crush and toss big objects such as cars. As we said, the peculiar contraption was presented to visitors at the open-air festival in Moscow on Saturday, where it quickly became the star attraction.
