The Front-Engined Audi R8 that Will Never Happen

For those of you who couldn’t sleep at night haunted by the desire to see how a front-engined Audi R8 would look like, we’ve come up with a solution. This comes in the form of the adjacent rendering, which shows an R8 with what would actually be a front-mid-engined configuration.
Such a vehicle will, most likely never exist. Not in a world where the R8 stays mid-engined to share its platform with the Lamborghini Huracan. The possibility of Audi introducing a large front-mid-engined coupe is also pretty slim, since that such a Grand Tourer adventure would risk cannibalization with another VW Group brand, making the Bentley Boys rather unhappy.

By the way, the rendering, which comes from E.Milano, seems to be a melange between an R8 Spyder and a second-generation Viper. You can still see the vented engine cover in the middle though, so perhaps this could be some twin-engined monster such as German tuner MTM’s bimoto first-generation Audi TT.

Since we mentioned the Audi R8, we shall take a moment to talk about the latest rumors. As you probably know, the Germans are still out there testing the second generation of the vehicle. Earlier today, we gave you a clip that showed the R8 prototype lapping the Nurburgring. The soundtrack showed that we could be dealing with a turbocharged R8.

The most likely version here is that entry-level R8 V8 is replaced with something powered by a future Audi engine. We are talking about a twin-turbo V6, which is currently in the works and will power the next RS4 and RS5 in about two years from now.
