BMW insider, Scott26, wrote recently on a forum that the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will be unveiled at Geneva, this year. Since the man proved he really knows what he’s talking about over the years, I’m 99% sure that’s exactly where the new FWD model will be making its debut.
According to the same post, the new model will be codenamed F45 and will arrive in the US in 2 versions at first: 220i and 225i, both of the front-wheel-drive, with the xDrive all-wheel-drive version as an optional for the latter. Transmissions will go either manual or automatic, as expected.
Apparently, there’s also a hybrid version in the works, dubbed F45 223e SAT xDrive. This model will also be available with either a manual or automatic gearbox but we don’t know anything about the powertrain for the moment. My guess is that it will be using either a 2-liter B48 engine with an electric unit alongside it, or a B38 engine (1.5-liter) for even more efficiency. Either way, things are surely getting interesting and electric over at BMW in a short time.
