The argument that a bicycle can replace a car in certain scenarios is as old as the issue of congestion in cities and, until recently, not exactly unfavorable to two-wheelers. Say what you will about the advantages of riding a bike in the city, but a bike will never substitute a daily driver.
But it could, if you keep an open mind. Fiido is making a very strong argument in favor of two-wheelers, adding a cargo longtail bike to its already impressive lineup of products.

This is the Fiido T2 Longtail Cargo eBike by its full name, aka the T2 by the shorter one. It's a two-wheel solution that emphasizes multi-functionality, solid performance, comfort, and reliability to present itself as the car replacement in most everyday scenarios. Think doing the kid's school drop-off, running errands, or doing the weekly grocery run. The T2 might even be suitable in commercial scenarios, like cargo hauling and delivery fleets.

The recent boom on the e-bike market has also meant a boom in the niche of cargo bikes with motorized assistance, which brought along more affordable pricing. Unless we're talking about highly specialized e-bikes, like those that come with a sidecar to transport kids or front-loading models, these products are now more affordable for the average Joe and Jane while offering more functionality than these premium versions.

The Fiido T2 could be a good example in this sense. Introduced on April 9, it's currently taking pre-orders at a discounted price and a bunch of accessories thrown in the mix as freebies, and it hopes to cater to a segment of the market Fiido had not covered before: family riding.

Fiido T2 is a longtail bike with an aluminum alloy frame, suspension fork, and fat tires that Fiido describes as featuring integrated suspension. The idea is that, unlike most cargo e-bikes, this one will deliver a cushier and more comfortable ride, whether you take it to the city streets, paved roads, or rougher terrain. An adjustable seatpost and adjustable handlebar also go a long way to making the ride more comfortable and accommodating for anyone between 5'1 (150cm) and 6'5 (200cm).

Power comes from a brushless geared rear-hub motor rated at 750W and peaking at 923W, with 60 Nm of torque and the guarantee that it will tackle hills with no difficulty, even loaded at maximum capacity – which is 200 kg (441 lbs), including the rider's weight. A Shimano 7-speed gearshifter helps with ease of use and cutting down on motor reliance, used in combination with the 5 levels of PAS (pedal assist).

The 998Wh battery tucked behind the seatpost is UL2271 certified and comes with an estimate of 100 km (62 miles) on a single charge, which is more than most cargo e-bikes today will offer with the same kind of payload. Fiido's real-world testing revealed a range of 111.11 km (69 miles) in Eco mode, and 49.34 km (30.6 miles) in unlocked mode, on throttle only.

Again, as with most e-bikes, these estimates are just that and should serve to help you get an approximate appreciation of what to expect. Real-life range is highly dependent on a variety of factors, from payload to riding style and riding conditions, which means everything from weather conditions to the terrain you're riding on.

The list of features includes one-piece wheels similar to what Fiido recently introduced on Titan, the "two-wheel SUV," a powerful headlight and a taillight that integrates braking light, 4-piston hydraulic brakes for efficient stopping power, and IP54 rating for the entire bike, including the color display. The T2, like most new Fiido bikes, comes with connectivity to the app and the Fiido Mate watch, which allows for remote unlocking and extra adjusting and monitoring of stats.

Since it's designed as a car replacement, the T2 has modularity as a plus, so you can configure it to your exact needs. Fiido is offering everything from child safety railing with a padded bench, to panniers, cargo bags and racks. Naturally, these add to the final price, but the reasoning is that what you save on gas and time spent stuck in traffic more than makes up for it.

Not that the T2 isn't priced attractively, at least as of this writing.

With the launch, Fiido is offering the T2 with a discount and a goodie bag (front rack, protective skirt on the rear wheel, and running boards for the rear passenger), €1,499/$1,499 instead of €1,799/$1,799, with deliveries within a week.

"With its remarkable range, superior comfort, and versatile cargo capacity, the T2 sets a new standard in urban mobility," Keven, CTO at Fiido, says in a statement. "We believe it will empower riders, revolutionize transportation, and contribute to a more sustainable future."

Aside from this very noble goal of making life better, the Fiido T2 means to improve yours. If you give it a chance.
