Having a proper trailer can be a game-changer when going off-road and off-grid. However, you have to find that ideal balance between the rig's dimensions (which will impact how deep off-road you can go) and its features – naturally, the more compact it is, the fewer features it'll have. Today, I'm presenting the Epik Scout lightweight trailer, an incredibly versatile rig with many creatively integrated features.
Epik RV is a Uniontown, Ohio-based manufacturer of adventure RVs. It has a single product available, which we're discussing today. The first things I want to talk about are its construction and dimensions.

First off, this trailer has an aluminum and composite body. Compared to wood, aluminum is not susceptible to rot and decay, requires less maintenance, and is more resilient against impacts, scratches, and weather-related deterioration.

The frame is made of steel and is wrapped in Rhino Lining for extra protection. Moreover, the rig boasts a bonded structure, meaning it doesn't rely on screws to keep its integrity. The exterior walls are fabricated using a structural foam composite core with a fiberglass exterior, while the walls inside feature Azdel composite paneling.

Regarding dimensions, the Epik Scout has a length of 17 feet (almost 5.2 meters), a width of 76 inches (244 centimeters), and a base height of 85 inches (216 centimeters). Furthermore, it tips the scales at 2,300 lb. (1,043 kg), while its GVWR is 4,000 lb. (1,814 kg). That means that it can be towed by most midsized SUVs or pickup trucks.

Epik RV describes the Scout as "designed for off-road, off-grid use," and the trailer comes with many features to back up this claim. Regarding off-roading, the Scout boasts an ARK articulating hitch, a Timbren 5200 independent off-road suspension, electric trailer brakes, aluminum fenders, and 33-inch all-terrain tires offering 19 inches (48 centimeters) of ground clearance. I'll talk more about its off-grid capabilities once we check out the interior.

At the front, there's a box storing a propane canister. On the left side of the trailer, you'll discover two exterior compartments – one holds a 75-liter (20-gallon) Dometic dual-zone fridge/freezer (which is offered as an option), while the other houses a pull-out kitchen. It features a removable stainless steel sink, a decent amount of counter space, and a storage compartment, and you can also opt for a dual-burner stove as an extra.

A nice feature of the Epik Scout is a large door covering its entire rear part, which can be opened to reveal several sizeable storage spots, some charging ports, and a pass-through. What's more, the inner side of the door has two integrated dimmable LED lights. Another notable detail here at the rear is a hitch which can hold about 200 to 250 lb. (91 to 113 kg).

Behind the outdoor kitchen, on the other side of the trailer, Epik RV installed the electrical system. It comprises a DC-DC charger, a 100 Ah lithium battery, and an MPPT solar charge controller connected to a 100 W solar panel on the roof, although you can install panels with more capacity for an additional cost.

I saved the best exterior feature for last: a slide-out that adds about 30 inches (76 centimeters) of room inside, complete with an integrated window. What's more, it's deployed by hand, so you don't have to worry about its motor breaking down.

The other best feature is a soft pop-top roof, which increases the exterior height to 96 inches (216 centimeters) when deployed. It comes with a light, zipped windows, and a panel with a mattress large enough to fit two people. However, during the day, you can remove this panel and have more standing room. Other notable exterior features are an outdoor shower and an OVS 270-degree awning, both offered as upgrades.

To enter, you'll have to open the rig's modular entry door, which has a built-in steel screen door and a bug net. Moreover, it's triple deadbolt locked for additional stability.

The interior space is quite compact, especially when the slide-out isn't extended – most of the room is occupied by the almost-queen-size bed. Extending the slide-out is extremely easy: just undo a latch and push it. You don't need a lot of strength to do it – just as Marissa, an Epik RV representative, demonstrated in the presentation video.

Storage isn't an issue inside the Scout. You get various options in the form of latching cabinets, cargo nets, under-bed spots, cubbies, and more. By the way, even the cabinets inside are made out of aluminum.

On the right side of the interior, you'll discover a small bench that can be turned into an extra sleeping space for a kid or for a pet, as it's quite small. Behind it, there's a window that comes with a bug screen and a black-out shade. Moreover, in the pass-through I mentioned earlier, there's a swivel table that can be pulled out, perfect for eating or working on your laptop.

And that's it regarding the interior. There's one last thing to talk about: the utility systems. Besides the electrical one I already mentioned, the Epik Scout is equipped with a 30-gallon (114-liter) freshwater tank. The other systems, a Dometic on-demand 6-gallon (23-liter) water heater and a Dometic propane and electric furnace, are offered as extras. Furthermore, Epik RV can prep the trailer for an EcoFlow Wave 2 A/C unit to be fitted in the pass-through if you plan on traveling in hotter environments.

There are two control panels inside. One controls the lights and heating systems, while the other is a Renogy monitor that displays information about charge status, how much energy you get from the solar panel, and more.

For additional safety, Epik RV installed a smoke detector, a fire extinguisher, and propane and CO2 detectors.

All in all, there are so many features integrated into this tiny trailer. It's durable, well-equipped, and can be an excellent tiny home for rugged adventures into the wilderness. Pair it with an overlander, and you have an excellent setup for exploration.

Regarding pricing, the base version of the Scout will set you back $36,000 (€32,218). The unit you can check out in the video below is priced at around $45,000 (€41,423) due to the multiple integrated options.

However, if budget isn't a problem for you, you can go even further and add leveling jacks, a spare tire with a mount, a Maxxfan, a battery upgrade, a Bluetooth stereo system, a vinyl wrap, a roof rack, and more, bringing the total price to more than $50,000 (€46,025). You can find out more about Epik RV, the Scout, and its available upgrades on the company's official website.
