The Hongqi HS5 crossover has recently entered production and deliveries started this fall, with orders for the vehicle piling up. The Chinese want to show the whole world that their model is worthy of the global market. The HS5 can really take a beating.
The Hongqi HS5 is tagged as a luxury crossover. It doesn't really need to go through fire and water, and a few other things, too, to prove its worth. It is not the rugged nature that makes it popular, but the generous standard equipment that places it in the luxury segment on the Chinese market.

The model has not made it to the US yet, but the Chinese want to prove that it is worthy of the global market. To make sure the HS5 gets all the attention that it needs, they put the crossover to some outrageous tests and it demonstrates that it can really take a beating. Or at least that is what the Chinese want us to believe.

The videos posted on social media prove the vehicle going through some ridiculous stunts. Brick walls, explosions, and a flaming ball blow. You name it, it did it. Each of the videos looks every inch a publicity stunt. But as staged as they may be, they are still interesting to watch.

The video uploaded on former Twitter/current X shows the Hongqi HS5 being hit by a flaming spiked wrecking ball that is swung from a height by a crane straight into the vehicle. The car takes the blow with dignity, slightly lifting its wheels from the ground. Windows break, airbags are deployed, but the HS5 is still standing.

The model, damaged by the flaming ball, is then towed through a couple of standing brick walls, goes through an explosion, and, as these were not enough already, the compact car is dropped onto the roof of the Hongqi.

After all the torture that it is put through, the crossover drives away, wrinkled and crumpled, as if nothing happened. Alright, we’ll pretend we believe it.

A second video uploaded on YouTube shows the car being inspected by two reviewers. The two of them manage to open the front passenger door, the one that was hit by the flaming spike ball.

The all-new Hongqi HS5 is the facelifted version of the model that the Chinese carmaker introduced back in 2019. Designed by Italdesign, the model is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, which generates 248 horsepower (252 PS) and is linked to an eight-speed auto box, replacing the six-speed unit of the pre-facelift version.

Hongqi is the carmaker that delivers the presidential state car. It is the armored L5 luxury sedan, which Joe Biden himself labeled as "a beautiful car" after a meeting in San Francisco with Chinese president Xi Jinping.

There is no information about the Hongqi HS5 in the videos below is armored or not.
