The BMW i8 Proves a Little Discriminatory Towards the Bigger Gentlemen

We all know that laughing at overweight people is wrong, disrespectful and could potentially hurt that person’s feelings. Or our bones, if said person manages to catch us.
But we feel this situation makes the perfect exception, since it’s exaggerated on purpose to highlight one of the main flaws of the otherwise excellent BMW i8: its access.

Of course, you’ll say, these cars are made for thin, muscular playboys of average height and with all the time in the world to spend in the gym or at the salad bar eating arugula. But every now and then, somebody from the other 99 percent of the population wants to try out the new Bavarian hybrid sports car. How do they get inside? And, even more importantly, how do they egress?

Having been in that situation, I can tell you it’s not a pretty sight. I’m nowhere near the size of the fellow in the clip below, but I am reasonably tall (198 cm or 6’6’’) and coming out of the car - especially since everybody would be looking at you - was something I wasn’t particularly looking forward to. And if you happen to suffer from a backache, forget about it, it’s nigh on impossible to use the i8.

So even though it will be hard to contain yourself given the contagious laugh of the man holding the camera, you’re not allowed to giggle unless you’ve tried doing it yourself and had better results.

While the process may indeed be difficult, he’s clearly exaggerating it for the purpose of making a point, and he’s putting on a pretty good show. It took him a painful quarter of a minute to extract himself from the BMW i8, but I’m pretty sure he’d cut that time in half if he practiced a little more.

Oh, and given the shape of everything involved in this clip, I really can’t possibly understand why the cameraman would still hold the phone in a vertical position. We should start a petition about this thing, if there aren’t one million already.
