The Series GT is the first of its name, as they would say in Game of Thrones. However, you can just think of it as the new 5 Series Gran Turismo. BMW brought over a few of them to Frankfurt, and we got to check out both the M Sport and the regular version.
The Bavarian car range is suffering an identity crisis at the moment. The 6er is being replaced by the 8 Series. There's a rumor that a new 6 Series will be developed to take on the Porsche 911. But until that happens, only the Gran Turismo will wear the number 6 shirt.

Like the X6, its new-found relative, this model now sports a sloping roof. It's impossible to say what kind of car this is other than to call it a practical yet elegant 5 Series. After seeing it in person, we have to say that there's no way this competes with the Mercedes CLS or the Audi A7.

BMW themselves seem to think so too because the M Sport package is designed with more subtle front air intakes than on other models. But make no mistake, she can hustle with the best of them. The white car in our photos is the 640i GT, equipped with the ubiquitous 3-liter turbo making 340 HP. It will hit 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds with xDrive.

The purplish brown car packs the 630d powertrain, meaning six cylinders of diesel grunt: 265 HP and 620 Nm of twist.

While the exterior styling is up for debate, the cabin is beyond reproach. Quilted Nappa Leather is available in Ivory White, Black and Mocha. Sitting in one of these just makes you feel rich. All of the technology from the 5 Series is available here, including gesture controls. The one notable difference is that the 6 Series GT will ride better on optional air suspension.

This one is coming to the states too, where it will hit showrooms this fall, costing from $69,700 plus $995 for destination and handling.
