Despite being one of the largest automotive markets on the planet, the U.S. is not overly rich in terms of bike makers presently doing business here. The two-wheeler industry is dominated by just two names, Harley-Davidson and Indian, with all the rest falling far behind in terms of reach, notoriety, and sales.
But that doesn't mean some of the others are not trying to make that famous duo a trio. And few of the less visible motorcycle companies now active in the U.S. seem to be trying as hard as Buell.

On the market in the new, revived form since 2021, Buell is presently offering a lineup of four motorcycle models, spearheaded by the mighty and surprisingly successful Hammerhead 1190. A fifth model, something called the Super Cruiser, will join the range in a couple of years.

This bike was first announced by Buell back in the spring of 2023 as an evolution of the 1190 that blends "West Coast cruiser aesthetic with the agility and handling of a sport bike."

An evolution of the 1190 means the same kind of V-twin engine in the frame, capable of developing 175 hp. That's an impressive number in itself, but considering the troop is supposed to push along a bike that weighs just 450 pounds (204 kg) it gets even more so.

Compared to the stock 1190 it is derived from, the Super Cruiser comes with a revised steering angle and different rake, and some yet undisclosed changes to the chassis. The wheels, 17 inches in size, but also the tires and brakes, are different as well.

The bike was put together with help from Roland Sands Design, so when the full specs are released we're probably going to witness some more surprises. But many, many people seem not to have waited for the full details, and already rushed to place a pre-order for the ride.

Buell opened the order books for the Super Cruiser half a year ago, and in the time that has passed since it raised no less than $120 million in pre-orders. It's unclear exactly how many people that is, but if we use the details available to us, we're left with two number that are equally impressive.

You see, Buell is asking just $50 to place a pre-order for the Super Cruiser. There is no option to give the company more money in advance that we can find. Knowing that, and knowing $120 million have been raised this way, that would result in pre-orders for no less than 2.4 million bikes! That's obviously impossible, so if we apply the expected $30,000 price to the pre-order value, we get just 4,000 bikes, a more manageable number. but no less

autoevolution reached out to Buell for clarification on this matter and we will update this story as soon as we learn more.
