The Dodge Challenger is going out with a 1,025-horsepower bang in the form of the Demon 170. Not all of them are created equal, though. Barrett-Jackson recently auctioned a 170 for $700,000 for charity. The winning bidder was offered a custom exterior color, making his Demon unique.
But the guy – or gal – who paid $700,000 for the aforementioned car isn't the only 170 owner in the one-of-one club because Dodge rolled out a Jailbreak program for the most powerful series-production car in the world. The invite-only program offers 40 special colors in total, split between 20 heritage colors from the 1970 Dodge Challenger and 20 modern colors handpicked by the American marque's design team.

Tony Diglio, a member of the SRT Demon 170 group on Facebook, received a follow-up email from Dodge confirming his Demon 170 to be one of one thanks to Yellow Jacket for the exterior. Tony, therefore, matched the exterior paint color of his 2018 model year Demon.

The bad news? This option adds an eye-watering $30,000 to the $96,666 sticker price of the 170. Said price doesn't include the gas guzzler tax of $3,700 (originally $2,100) and the destination fee of $1,595, bringing the total to $131,961. At the very least, that is, because there are other options worth considering.

For instance, a power sunroof will set you back $9,995. Carbon-fiber wheels are $11,495, and the satin black-painted hood is $1,995. Satin black for the hood, roof, and decklid ups the ante to $3,695, while sat nav costs $995. The rear seat delete, however, costs nothing.

Demon 170 production kicked off a few days ago, with the most powerful Challenger of all time being made with pride in Canada at the Brampton assembly plant. The ultimate member of the Last Call muscle car family is limited to 3,300 units, of which 300 will remain in Canada. 170 is a cheeky reference to the alcohol proof of E85 (85 percent ethanol, 15 percent gas) because the main difference between the Demon and Demon 170 is the switch from 100-plus-octane race fuel to corn brew.

1,025 horsepower is more than the Bugatti Veyron used to make almost two decades ago from a quad-turbo W16 monster of an engine with 987 ponies on deck. Torque also favors the Hellcat-powered muscle car at 945 pound-feet (1,281 Nm) compared to 922 pound-feet (1,250 Nm) for the French land missile.

Zero to 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour)? That would be 1.66 seconds, thank you! The crazy numbers continue with a standing quarter mile of 8.91 seconds, and 2.004 Gs at launch.

No production vehicle with a cam-in-block V8 will ever match the Demon 170 because of increasingly stringent CAFE and emission standards, cementing the 170's place in the pantheon of greats. The upcoming Charger electric liftback is certain to be fast in the quarter mile, but alas, electric propulsion doesn't have that certain something of a big ol' V8 topped by a thumpin' great blower.
