The Tesla Roaster and the Tesla Roaster Sport will be available to a wider range of customers, as Tesla now offers a leasing option for the electric sports cars.
Tesla Motors Leasing’s financial offer enables customers to receive their vehicles immediately through a three year, 30,000 mile contract that features a purchase option at the end of the period.
"We are committed to continuously improving and enhancing the Roadster, offering a leasing option means even more people can drive this exciting and groundbreaking car," said John Walker, Tesla Vice President of Sales.
The Tesla roaster offers an EPA range of 236 miles for each charge and can be plugged into regular 120 or 240V household outlets. Tesla has created a special maintenance division called Tesla Rangers. This offers customers a full maintenance coverage, including annual inspections, and firmware upgrades.
The Tesla Roadster uses a 3-phase, 4-pole electric motor that offers 185 kW (248 HP) and a torque figure of 200 lb-ft (270Nm) available from 0 rpm to 6,000 rpm. The motor is air-cooled and allows the car to leave the 62 mile mark behind in 3.9 seconds. The Tesla Roadster Sport’s motor has a higher density hand-wound stator, producing 215 kW (288 HP). This gives the car a 0 to 62 mph acceleration time of 3.7 seconds. The Roadster uses an Energy Storage System battery pack offering an estimated energy storage capacity of 53 kWh. This is expected to have a life span of 7 years or 100,000 miles (160,000 km).
