The Tesla Model 3 development team from China has just released a new video to show how the infotainment system works on board the new Model 3 and how the ambient lighting looks in the dark.
One month after the debut of the refreshed Model 3, the Chinese development team that worked on the car keeps revealing the secrets of the electric compact sedan.

The one doing it this time is David Lau, VP of Vehicle Software for the new Model 3. "All of this is just the beginning," he says, sitting in one of the rooms of the Tesla Research & Development Center in Shanghai, China, right next to an all-new red Model 3.

He praises the customizable ambient lighting system with a strip that goes all around the cabin and talks about better insulation, which allows the sound and infotainment system play their best cards on board.

In another video shared by Tesla on the Chinese Weibo 24 hours before, Lars Moravy, VP of Vehicle Engineering for Tesla, referred to the sound insulation as well: “Even though car are passing you by at high speed, you don’t really hear them.” This allows the 17-speaker sound system on board to play the aces up its sleeve.

One of David Lau's all-time favorite features is the infotainment screen for the rear passengers, a feature transferred from the Model S and X into the Model 3. It supports the functionality of the infotainment system, enabling those sitting in the rear to adjust temperature and ventilation, as well as play their favorite TV shows without the necessity to bother those sitting at the front.

China is Tesla’s biggest market. So it made sense to have a development team over there to support manufacturing of cars in China for China. The Gigafactory Shanghai was built in record time, starting in January 2019.

The first vehicle rolled out the production line in December. The plant manufactures the Model 3 and Model Y and has recently celebrated the two million vehicles built there.

The video shared by Tesla China on September 27 shows moments from the development of the Model 3 and confirms the top speed of the car. At the 17-second mark, the tablet used by engineers shows how the compact sedan goes from 199 to 200 kph (123.6 to 124.2 mph) under the supervision of Lars Moravy.
He was also part of the team that developed the original Model 3 before the launch in 2017. So his question, "Is this really the best Tesla Model 3?," is legitimate.

The first facelifted Tesla Model 3s will be reaching customers in January 2024. The Tesla Model 3 has already entered production at the Shanghai Gigafactory, with the Fremont, California, plant to kick off manufacturing soon.
