Tech 3 Yamaha Wants "Forever" Role for Colin Edwards

Colin Edwards' switch from Yamaha's factory team to their satellite Tech 3 outfit a couple of years ago seems to be the best thing that happened to the French organization in years. And it's not us talking, but team boss Herve Poncharal. In an exclusive interview with crash.net, the Frenchman admitted that he'd like to have the Texan rider inside the Tech 3 organization even after his racing career will be terminated.

Ever since he left FIAT Yamaha Team and joined Monster Tech 3 Yamaha, Edwards constantly upgraded his performances in the MotoGP series. After finishing on a decent 7th place overall in 2008, he climbed up to 5th overall last year and therefore ensured his presence in the French outfit's lineup for another season.

However, it we are to trust Poncharal's latest comments, the 2010 campaign is not the only thing Edwards managed to secure with his performances last season, but also a potential lifetime contract with the team.

I am more than happy to have one more year with Colin and definitely he is now part of the family at Tech 3. Hopefully forever,” said Poncharal, according to the aforementioned source.

Yamaha has said they would like to keep Valentino until the end of his career and then keep him as an ambassador. Okay, Tech 3 is a very tiny company compared with Yamaha, but we would like Colin to remain forever part of the Tech 3 family in the same way,” added the French official, who also hinted that the former World Superbike champion will be offered a testing role with the team after he'll have ended his MotoGP career."

Edwards will be joined in the Tech 3 lineup next year by new US star and World Superbike champion in 2009 Ben Spies, who is mostly regarded as one of the most talented riders of the new wave. In his only MotoGP start in 2009, racing for Sterilgarda Yamaha Team, he scored an impressive 7th place overall at Valencia.
