Tata Indica Vista Electric Ready for Europe

Ahead of the still planned, but not quite decided upon launch of the Nano model in Europe, the Indians from Tata announced this week the launch of the electric version of the Indica Vista model on the European market.

Because of the similarities when it comes to the car's design (especially because of the right hand drive configuration), the model will be at first introduced, in summer next year, in the UK. The fact that yesterday the British government announced the model was on the list of EVs to receive a 5,000 pounds subsidy also contributed to the UK being the first market to get it.

The Indian electric vehicle is a four seater capable of traveling at speeds of up to 71 mph for distances of around 110 miles on a full charge. It will be introduced onto the market for fleet operators at first, with the initial models set to enter testing in the UK by the end of the first quarter 2011.

Next year, Tata plans to bring only 12 units of the model to the streets, to be tested before the official market introduction in 2012. Pricing information is not available for now.

Back to new government incentives announced yesterday, the Brits will provide a total of 43 million pounds for a program meant to change the face of Britain's transport. For now, eight other vehicles are on the list of cars eligible together with the Vista: Mitsubishi iMiEV, smart fortwo electric drive, Peugeot iON, Citroen CZero, Nissan Leaf, Toyota Prius Plug-in, Vauxhall Ampera and Chevrolet Volt.
