Supercar Wheels in 2014, One Mouth-Watering Collection

Porsche may have introduced the first mass-produced forged aluminum wheels back in the 1960s with their Fuchs rims, but the decades that separate us from that moment have seen people turn the already existent obsession with car wheels into an even greater one.
Nowadays, even Chinese copycats can come with eye-catching wheels, so it’s self-understood that the rules of wheels in the supercar world are pretty simple. Or are they?

The supercar realm is split between two main camps, namely the wheels you’d expect to see and those that take you by surprise. The first category includes brands such as Lamborghini, with Sant’Agata Bolognese creations wearing the spectacular type of wheels that fall in line with its aggressive angular styling. McLaren probably also belongs here, with the Brits using a form-follows-function approach that defies their machines altogether.

As for the not-so-obvious choices, this list is obviously led by Ferrari - the Prancing Horse shoes are incredibly simple - in fact, if you would take them off their cars and perhaps remove the little Prancing Horses on the center caps, people not touched by automotive passion would probably fail to recognize them as Ferrari rims.

The clip below offers us a nice sampling of the supercar wheel world and while this isn’t shown in the clip, the present year has shown a serious increase in the number of centerlock wheels.

The Germans are the ones that bring this motorsport-inspired solution to the headlines, with practicality falling to second place this time. Porsche are examples that pale in the face of what Mercedes has done - for crying out loud, the Mercedes-AMG C63 S is a sedan that comes with centerlock wheels in standard!

Like we said, you can get a random taste of the contemporary supercar wheel world in the clip below, which is best enjoyed after browsing some Ferrari and Lamborghini specs.
