It’s again time for some more haute tension-action from Taiwan, and just like you’ve maybe been expecting, it’s about one more mindless scooter rider.
At times I cannot help wondering how many casualties does this country register each year. Seeing how unbelievably lucky some of these chaps are, and knowing that the total amount of luck on the planet kind of remains constant, as one of my buddies like to say, it means that quite a lot of other scooter riders are left with none… and pay the ultimate price for riding like mad men.
The scenario for this crash is one of the classic types, with the speeding scooter passing the car on the right side, completely oblivious of incoming traffic from ahead. In this particular case, things are even worse, as the incoming vehicle is a large truck steering left in front of the scooter.
An initial dose of luck prevents the rider form being caught under the trucks rear wheels, as the vehicle is equipped with special rail guards which won’t allow scooters, bikes, motorcycles or persons to slide underneath it. The luck overdose comes in the shape of the aware car driver which manages to brake hard and avoids running the scooter rider over, granting him the chance to reflect upon his mindless actions that day.
