From the Nissan Juke to the upcoming Opel Mokka, it’s clear that crossovers are on a shrinking again. But even these two will look positively huge by comparison when French carmaker Peugeot unleashes its smallest crossover ever, the nee 2008.
The name says it all, doesn’t it! It’s basically a jacked up version of the 208 hatchback. We expected the styling to be identical to the HR1 concept shown in 2010, but it seems Peugeot has made it longer in order to fit two full doors. The shape of the body looks more like a station wagon with raised suspension, especially at the back where he overhangs are unpleasantly longs.
According to some reports, the model will be previewed this year at the Paris Motor Show under the name “Urban Crossover Concept”, after which it will enter production next year.
Powertrain options are expected to include the first petrol-electric hybrid system, similar to that seen in the 3008 Hybrid4 with its diesel engine. But this will only be the top-of-the-line engine option, as most customers will opt for standard front-wheel drive.
