The brand new MINI Cooper hatchback has already been shown to select dealers and customers from around the world, indicating that a full reveal will take place later this year, with a market debut scheduled for the next.
This test vehicle for the regular Cooper hatch (single exhaust) shows a lot more detail than ever before. Changes aren't all that substantial over the current generation, but it's clearly a bigger car than the current 3-door. There will even be a 5-door version.
Here's the deal though: the third-gen MINI is a lot bigger than the first-gen model, leading us to believe that they are pushing the range up in order to make room of a new nameplate a the small end of the scale.
Compared to the outgoing model, this new hatch will be more modern. It will be available for the first time with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, more clearly layer out control, all-LED headlights and taillights and probably front parking sensors as well.
The fact that its platform is shared with the new 1 Series GT will allow BMW to drop the new 1.5-liter three cylinder turbo engines under the bonnet. Rumors are circulating that a 1.6-liter turbo will still be used for the Cooper S and JCW.
