Not even a week passed since we got to see the MINI Clubman Concept in the flesh at the Geneva Motor Show 2014 and we’re already seeing the first prototypes being tested around the arctic circle.
The novelty lies in the fact that there’s the previous model being carried around too, to see exactly where the biggest improvements could be made. What we can also notice is that the new car will be having no less than 6 doors, the rear one being split into two, in the typical barn-style we’ve been getting used to on the Clubman.

Latest rumors claim that the MINI platform won’t grow anymore and, as it is already noticeable, the new model will be bigger than the previous iteration of the car but just by a slight margin, coming extremely close to the limit the designers and management wants for the overall British line-up of cars.

The 2015 Clubman will be using the same UKL platform as all of its new brothers as well as various BMW models. Since the Germans are keen on driving the production costs down and using modular engines, the mills for the 6-door vehicle are already known, varying between 1.5- and 2-liter, 3- and 4-cylinder turbocharged mills making from 116 HP to 192 HP. If we get to see a John Cooper Works model (even though it wouldn’t make too much sense) it would probably be using a 2-liter 231 HP 4-cylinder engine, exactly the same as on the new BMW 225i Active Tourer.

The production model, most likely, won’t use all the innovative interior design styling and materials as on the Concept but, hopefully, it will be keeping most of them, the new gauges being my definite favorite, by far. Expect MINI to bring the second-gen Clubman at the Paris Motor Show, this autumn.
