There’s a rumor going around today that modern MINIs aren’t mini anymore. The fact is, I agree with those that say so, since the purpose of the original car was lost somewhere along the road to today’s vehicles.
One brilliant example is the one of the upcoming MINI Clubman and its evolution. Initially, the Clubman was a lot smaller, virtually similar in size with the original Mini. In 2007 BMW launched the new version, a bigger, 4-door estate version that had an extra door on the right side.
Now, the UKL platform brings a new enlargement, making the Clubman nearly as big as the biggest MINI ever made, the Countryman.
As we can see in the spyshots, the upcoming model will have 4 traditional doors and two smaller ones at the back for even more practicality.
Engines will be shared with the rest of the line-up and will be comprised of 1.5- and 2-liter turbocharged units, part of the B-engine family that will soon replace all current power plants. Expect the new car somewhere in 2015 at the latest.
