The Golf GTI might be the ultimate all-rounder of the hot hatch world, but for some people that's not enough. After the new Mk7 model went on sale last year, thousands of people bought the car and lot were lavished with care, attention and custom parts. It looks like Volkswagen wants to return the compliment with a track special or "Club Sport" as the Germans call them.
This prototype was spotted earlier today for the very first time. Our photographer stationed at the Nurburgring says VW didn't want us to see the car and sent it out on the very last lap allowed on the day, hoping nobody would notice. Needless to say, that didn't happen!

Every year, literally hundreds of thousands of people come to the Worthersee GTI Treffen in Austria, all of them hot hatch fans. Every year, Vdub brings them something special and we thing this car is 2014's big debut. We can't tell you specifics from what we can see, it's riding on 19-inch rims from the old Golf R, has lowered suspension, a chin spoiler and a huge rear wing. A more powerful engine is pretty much a guarantee, though not by much.

In case you were wondering, Wiechers-Sport (what's written on the GTI) is a German auto racing team which is based in Nienburg. They most certainly made the roll cage inside the 3-door hatch, potentially even an engine bay strut and a new set of adjustable racing dampers and springs.

The Worthersee meet starts on May 28, so a bit over two months from now we might be served a slice of hot GTI heaven.

Another, admittedly less likely, possibility that still needs to be mentioned is the GTI Edition 40, which should be out in two years, celebrating the four decades that passed since the original was launched.
