Since its unveiling in Shanghai, earlier this year, little has been written or heard of the brand new BMW X4. We saw it a while back in some other spyshots but up until now, we never got a glimpse of it on the Nurburgring.
The X4 made its debut on the world famous Green Hell circuit and our trusty spy photographers were there to shoot it, even before it hit the track's asphalt. The car we're looking at has only 2 tailpipes though.

That might indicate that the prototype tested in the gallery below is actually powered by a 2-liter turbocharged unit, most likely the 245 HP one found on the 328i. If this turns out to be true it might give us some indication as to what models will show up on the market first.

We reckon that the xDrive35i and xDrive28i might be the first models to show up, possibly joined by a monstrous xDrive50i. For the latter, performance numbers should be impressive, since it would use the 4.4-liter V8 also available on the new F15 X5, with 450 HP and 650 Nm (480 lb-ft) of torque.

For the European market, a diesel alternative will probably be launched during the first months too, most likely under the xDrive25d guise, powered by a 2-liter turbocharged diesel with 218 HP, currently used on the 525d too.

As for the interior, little is known, but most likely it will be extremely similar to the one found on the F25 X3. Some additional M Performance parts might also bring a touch of originality to the interior of the X4.
