Korean carmaker Kia has worked hard to make the Sorento SUV that little bit better during its mid-life refresh. However, despite it being generously equipped, it's no match for the newer Nissan Pathfinder and even its sister model, the Hyundai Santa Fe.
That's why, these European test engineers are hard at work developing a new Sorento SUV, out for the 2016 model year, somewhere in Scandinavia. Why there? Because the harsh weather and difficult road conditions encountered there simulate the extremes this vehicle might face during its life cycle.

Our spies were stationed at a gas station located near the area where most automakers test their cars and managed to snap these compelling images.

The third generation Sorento will make its move firmly into the D-segment SUV market. Reports indicate that an extended platform will transform this into a good 7-seater family vehicle, popular in America.

In 2010, the Sorento became the first model they offered to be made in the United States. No longer based on a truck frame, the 2011 model year Sorento came with unibody construction. This will surely continue going forward as it provides car-like driving characteristics.

Engine options will likely continue to include a 2.4-liter GDI and 3.3-liter V6 GDI. European customers will be offered updated diesels, a base 2.0-liter CRDI with 150 PS or a much nicer 2.2-liter CRDI with 200 PS and about 430 Nm of torque.
