The upcoming BMW 5 Series is already conducting tests around the company's headquarters in Germany. Today, our spy photographers even caught both the sedan and touring versions of the car on the prowl, checking out the surroundings.
The thing is, the 5er just received a face lift a couple of months ago and the end of production isn't scheduled until at least 2016. That means that BMW has enough time to get it right this time.

And right we think they will get it, as rumors already say the new model will be lighter than its predecessor, that being one of the most important complaints reviewers had with it over the years.

However, judging from the looks of the cars in these photos, the 5er seems to have grown a bit. That means that the engines might be surprising, to say the least.

Right now we presume most of them will be kept, with a new, 1.5-liter 3-cylinder unit to join them later on. But the question remains: if the car grows in size, will the new oil burner be able to cope with its new dimensions?
