While Jaguar's marketing teams are busily pushing the new F-Type Coupe onto every magazine cover in the world, the serious men in lab coats are working on the next big thing. A facelift of the complete XJ flagship range is Jaguar's largest project of the year and we can't wait to see it, especially this thing, the powerful XJR.
Seen here for the very first time, the test prototype wearing camouflage over the front and rear bumpers is ready for hardcore testing at the Nurburgring track in Germany. Much like BMW's facelifts, this car has new bumpers with evolved intakes and grilles. This is the way most manufacturers are ensuring their new cars are still instantly recognizable.
A 2014 model that went on sale just months ago, the XJR is still a brand new nameplate. So 2015 model year updates will be limited. That's why we expect the output of the 5-liter supercharged V8 to remain pegged at 550 PS (405 kW) and 680 Nm (502 lb-ft) of torque.
The "sporting pinnacle" of the XJ range is likely going to become a little more special though different colors and trim options. But the rest of the XJ range will suffer more drastic changes, bundled up together into a model range that's to be revealed this summer.
