Ahead of the model's official debut, which is likely to take place this September at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, the new MINI hot hatch has begun testing at the Nurburgring.
A lot has changed since the past year, as three brand new small hot hatches, the Renault Clio RS, Ford Fiesta ST and Peugeot 208 GTi. All use 1.6-liter turbo engines, just like the Cooper S, and all are very dynamically competent.

Thus, MINI news to ensure this new Cooper S is very good, otherwise people will stop comparing their car to go-kart.

It is yet unclear if the Cooper S will use a new 1.5-liter turbo, 3-cylinder turbo engine or the update the 1.6-liter currently used by the car.

Our sources tell us the 2014 MINI Cooper range will offer a much more modern 8-speed automatic gearbox. This is perhaps the real headline grabber of this car, as it better matches the refined nature premium vehicles should have.
