The Mercedes Benz S-Class has undergone its requisite mid-life revision a while back, so the large three-pointed car spotted testing on the Nurburgring can only be the completely new model that’s expected to arrive late in 2012 as a 2013 model. Giving you a very small glimpse of what to expect from the luxury sedan, spy photos of the next-generation luxury car reveal a completely new look up front and more room in the back.
The car you see here is undergoing high-speed testing to see how the chassis copes with these demands. In the engine department, expect to see the next S550 making use of a 429 twin-turbo V8, while the S600 should pack about 510 hp for wafting about from its V12. The AMG version for those in the mode for some hooligan sideways action should have about 550 horsepower from the new AMG 5.5-liter V8. Yes, this might be one of the last Mercs with a big V12.
There’s also a hybrid version on the way, and we expect the smallest engine you can get will be the 2.2-liter in the S250 CDI offering 201 horsepower to you frugal-minded executives.
On the cosmetic side of things, expect the car to bring F800-like features, new LED daylight running lights are coming, and the indicators have been moved on top of the whole fixture.
The car is said to debut at next year’s Frankfurt Auto Show, with customer deliveries taking place in October 2012.
