And here we have it, ladies and gents: one of the first sets of spyshots showing what BMW itself says will be best looking BMW in years: the 2011 6 Series. Unfortunately, all that beauty is well hidden under the usual psychedelic BMW 6 Series camo, so...
As you can see, the most striking feature on the new 6 Series is, in fact, the lack of a stricking feature: the new 6 Series will say goodbye to the like it/hate it "Bangle butt."
Engine wise, there will be several exciting units getting a place under the hood. The 6 cylinder twin turbo, developing 326 hp, will power one of the entry level 6ers, with the more up-class ones likely to be propelled by a 407 hp twin-turbo V8. The engines will be offered with a choice of two transmissions, a 8 speed automatic and a 7-speed DCT.
For diesel fans, BMW is preparing the unit that can be found today in the 635d, while a tri-turbo, 354 hp 6 cylinder unit may also be considered. Of course, BMW is planning a hybrid version of the 6 Series as well, in the shape of the 655 model.
According to some rumors, a 6 Series-based GT may also be on the way, a "natural progression" of a premium sports coupe. If true, the GT 6 will be the first BMW model to have a full hatchback and unique passenger entry, with a Mazda RX-8 like rear hatch and no B-pillar.
Although the GT 6 will enter a market that already has the 6 Series coupe, the two vehicles will not compete for the same piece of pie. The GT 6 is aimed at bringing a new approach compared to the coupe, a new style and different driving dynamics.
