Spyker targets eBay bidders

In a desperate attempt to build up a decent budget for 2007, cash-strapped Formula 1 team Spyker-Ferrari decided to sell remaining advertising space on its cars via online auction and shopping website eBay. Prices vary from 500,000 euros (for a logo on the nose of the car) to 3,000,000 euros (for the engine cover).

Bas Verhart, CEO of Media Republic, Spyker's associate advertising company that came up with the idea said: "Of course we are expecting some corporate interest, but we also think that it is a unique opportunity for all those eccentrics and philanthropists out there, who want to marriage in style, support their chosen charity or highlight just causes".

There are currently no bidders for any of the four selected lots on the bodywork of the Spyker F8-VII race cars of Christijan Albers and Adrian Sutil. One can only speculate if it's a genuine business or just a publicity stunt from the back-of-the-grid Dutch team to draw attention on their mechanical failure-prone cars.

Newly baptized Spyker F1 team bought Ferrari engines and drafted in highly rated ex-McLaren, ex-Renault, ex-Toyota engineer Mike Gascoyne, but struggles to catch up with the rest of the field, due to chronic lack of pre-season testing and development between races.
