To make another new car, BMW has taken the 3 Series, chopped the doors, added a slightly different body and put new doors on it. Crazy? Maybe, or maybe it's one of their brilliant ideas.
The 4-door version of the 4 Series has been spotted testing in Germany, both on the road and on track. It will be ready to a market launch next summer, meaning it's basically almost ready to be shown. We don't think the car codenamed the F36 is that significant, but it is a welcomed alternative if you thing the 4er Coupe is a sharper dresser than the 3er.
Unlike many 4-door coupes on the market, BMW made this one as practical as possible. It's not swept-back from headlight to taillight just for the sake of design and the cabin is quite spacious as well.
Expect a full range of both four- and six-cylinder engines from BMW. The Germans haven't yet started to develop an M4 Gran Coupe, and there have been no reports that they are planning to. Then again, a 435i or a 434d xDrive will be plenty fast enough for most people.
