It seems despite the many front-wheel drive prototypes BMW is currently developing, the German automaker has not forgotten about the promise that it will deliver "the ultimate driving machine".
Two test prototypes for the upcoming X4 have been spotted taking advantage of the last few days of Nurburgring testing. Despite the tall body, both handle themselves very well and have the poise we expect of a Bimmer.
The X4 is of course based on the current X3, itself expected to get a makeover next year. Much like the bigger X6, this Sport Activity Coupe has a sloped roofline which gives it the appearance of a coupe with increased ground clearance.
The proportions of the car are going to be almost identical to the X3, with the exception of the height, of course. Various combinations of engines will be on offer, mostly 2- and 3-liter turbo units. Production of the X4 will take place in Spartanburg.
