Speeding Biker, Driver Running the Red, Shoes Fly Really High

Speeding rider meets driver jumping the red 1 photo

Honestly, I believe that people running the red light with premeditation should receive a massive bad from using any motorized vehicles on public roads. Not that speeding to jump the (early) yellow is any better, but carefully inspecting the road ahead and making the move while you can still clearly see you shouldn’t be moving is a bit of an involuntary killer move sometimes.
While at first I thought that the two SUVs and the truck are also running the red, I watched the video a second time and can confirm that they, as well as the rider, had green. While it’s impossible to make a statement that’s 100% certain for the yellow car (possibly a taxi?), we could assume that he had red, especially as the other vehicles in that part of the intersection only moved later.

Now, truth be told, the rider also has a lot to do with this nasty accident, as his speed was obviously way over the legal one. On the other hand, since the rider had green, he most likely thought just like all of us do and rode through the intersection. The element of surprise (and pain) is derived from the illegal move the driver of the yellow car made, but a lower speed could have saved the motorcyclist.

When on two wheels, any rider should be aware that a ton of potential danger is present around every bend, at any given moment of the ride. Being prepared to react is a life saver on many occasions, but in order to react, one has to have the time for this. Riding like the wind reduces the reaction times a lot, even down to zero sometimes, and then you can see crashes like this one happening, with no reaction from the rider whatsoever.

If you watch the video attentively, you'll also notice that one of the rider's shoes flies through the air almost as high as a lamp post...
