An old rider told me some very wise words: “life on two wheels is already dangerous enough for you to make it more so by doing stupid things.” After all these years spent riding, the truth is the old chap’s saying becomes more and more obvious, and seeing crashes like the one in the video after the jump only provides an even better understanding of how many benefits not being stupid comes with.
Bikes are being ridden fast, even in the city; it’s no use in trying to deny this. But since you’re already breaking the law and are facing the possibility of getting flashed each time you go around a bend (to say the least), why acting mindlessly, too, while at it? A couple of mph over the legal speed is not that much of a fuss, but ignoring the basic safety rules is definitely stupid and will end in pain… which, in this case, just did.
Now, the camera car is the second in line, but there’s no telling whether there were any other cars behind it. I’d say there might have been at least one or two, because the rider appears to be driving in a straight line at high speed, which leads me to think that he was already in the middle of the street, instead of swerving past the stopped cars. And this brings us to the mindless riding manner, and the way he seems to have ignored the possibility that the front-runner would turn left.
The rider was obviously at fault this time, trying to pass the cars in an intersection on the left side. Unfortunately for the two fellows on the bike, the day ended in a bad way. And speaking of mindlessly ignoring any safety concerns, being that stupid while carrying a passenger in the back makes this fellow and even worse rider.
