smart Expands to Hawaii

smart USA has appointed a new dealer for the Hawaiian islands, with the new development expanding the company’s dealer network into its 37th state.The new dealership will be manged by the Hawaii Automotive Retailing Group. Dubbed 'smart center Honolulu', will be inaugurated later this month.

"Entering Hawaii is a significant milestone for the smart brand," said Jill Lajdziak, president, smart USA. "The smart fortwo's small size, agility and great fuel efficiency make it the perfect vehicle for the Hawaiian islands."

smart USA, a subsidiary of Penske Automotive Group, selected Hawaii Automotive Retail Group to represent the brand in Hawaii after a complex evaluation stage, which was aimed at ensuring that it will offer customers a top sales and service experience. Hawaii Automotive Retailing Group is owned and operated by Inder Dosanjh, together with managing partner Ernest Guajando.

The smart center Honolulu is the third new smart dealership to be opened this year and the company’s second retail point outside the U.S. mainland.

smart USA’s latest move is the introduction of the smart fortwo electric drive to the U.S. The company will offer a fleet of 250 vehicles as part of a pilot program.
