For us petrolheads, a sleeper is like a black tuxedo. Elegant, always in fashion, but never as flashy as a Ferrari 458 Italia. But if you're after the ultimate sleeper, a road-going example of the breed, this rear-wheel drive Aussie sedan may interest you greatly.
From the looks of it, it's simple to tell we are dealing with an FG generation Ford Falcon, a model produced from 2008 to October 2014 by Ford Australia. Think about it as an Aussie variant of the Ford Taurus SHO.
Why SHO? That's because this Falcon is the 6GE Turbo, a sporty model that's got a 4-liter turbocharged Barra inline-six as its means of internal combustion. With an official 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) time of 4.9 seconds, this is a pretty fast Australian sedan.
But what would you say about the same vehicle with a monstrous 738 horsepower recorded at the rear wheels without even sacrificing its road-legal credentials? Not bad of a recipe, especially when you find out this family-oriented sedan can run the 1/4-mile in 9.9 seconds on super sticky MT street-legal radial rubber.
The main go-faster enhancements include a Garrett GTX35/40 high flow turbo that runs 28 psi of boost, a heavy-duty Kewish Auto six-speed transmission and a similarly heavy-duty Eaton TrueTrac differential, which takes care of keeping all that grunt under control when blistering off the line like a stabbed rat.
And I kid you not, the owner is adamant that this bad boy still wears its original Brembo brakes. But the most enticing aspect of the ultimate sleeper FG Falcon is, of course, its factory-standard exterior looks.
