The UK is one of the countries that place a strong emphasis on vanity plates and we are here now to talk about the latest personalized British license plates. To be more precise, the DVLA (Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency) has recently introduced an unprecedented move, releasing a registration for auction one year before it can be used on the road, in the form of the “SL 63 AMG” plate.
The registration, which comes with a GBP2,000 (EUR2,518 or $3113 at the current exchange rates) reserve, has been released to celebrate the Agency’s upcoming September sale at Mercedes-Benz World and since it belongs to the 63 series, it will be used to identify cars first registered from September 1, 2013.
The list of vanity plates that will be auctioned during the aforementioned event is much longer, including plates such as BE11 NDA, CA12 TER, JE12 OME and PA12 KES, as well as a James Bond-inspired CO07 SPY.
“Auctioning a registration so far in advance of its on the road date has never been done before, but as it is the sixtieth anniversary year of the SL we wanted to celebrate by offering the registration for sale now rather than have it sitting in our vault,” said Damian Lawson, DVLA Personalised Registrations’ Marketing Manager.
