Skoda Vision RS Teaser Shows a Compact Hot Hatch With Carbon
Skoda has teased a new concept car that will be officially shown about a month from now at the Paris Motor Show. It's called the Vision RS, and although it's not groundbreaking, it does suggest a new type of car is on its way.
While technical details surrounding the project are scarce, we do have the dimensions of the concept. The Vision RS is 4356 mm (171.4 inches) long, 1810 mm (71 inches) wide, and 1431 mm (56 inches) tall, with a wheelbase measuring 2650 mm (104 inches).

That makes it a compact car. For reference, the Golf R is 4,263mm long, 1,799mm wide, 1,465mm tall, with a 2,626mm wheelbase. Meanwhile, the equivalent Skoda model, the Octavia RS is much bigger at 4,689mm.

But Skoda has never built a concept it doesn't want to put into production, and this definitely looks like it has the makings of a GTI rival. So what gives? Well, it could be a preview for the next Rapid, which has already begun testing.

Currently, the compact hatch (and notchback) is based on the same platform as the smaller Fabia, but plans are in place to switch it over to the MQB or MQB A0. This modular toolkit, combined with a better-built base car, could allow the Vision RS to receive a 2-liter turbo and sell well. Now, that could be anything from a 200 HP version to about 250.

Another thing worth noting is the carbon being used. We see it as the frame for the main grille, on the chin spoiler, side skirts and probably the rear diffuser too. So far, sister brand SEAT has used carbon fiber on road cars, but not Skoda.

Also being presented in Paris is the Kodiaq RS, the first performance SUV in company history. It's going to be powered by the twin-turbo 2.0-liter diesel engine found in the Passat and Tiguan, sending 240 HP and 500 Nm of torque to all four wheels via a 7-speed DSG.
