Skoda Rapid to Be Unveiled on November 16th

At the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show back in September, we were thoroughly impressed with the look of the MissionL Concept, a four-door that previewed a future production compact for the Czech brand that would first be launched in India, than in Europe.
So naturally, the first place to look if we want to find out more about the car is India. On October 7th, production of the Rapid kicked off at their Chakan plant. The very photo we are sharing with you was from the assembly line, but we never got a full reveal or press releases.

It turns out, according to Indian Autos Blog, that the Skoda Rapid will be unveiled as a “luxury saloon” (yes, but only in India) on November 16th in New Delhi. What’s more, the car is reportedly a VW Polo sedan that has received a Skoda makeover.

We still don’t know if it will follow VW’s more angular design language that were seen on the MissionL or if it will look like a Fabia with a big boot, but the European debut will happen shortly, because it’s scheduled to arrive on the market next year.

The Indian Skoda Rapid will be offered exclusively with a choice of two 103 hp engines, one being a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter petrol and the other a 1.6 TDI with common rail.

We really hope it will look like a completely different car, as Europe already has enough affordable, lack-luster sedans.
