Skoda showcased a camouflaged pre-production version of the Kodiaq/Kodiak SUV at a special event in Prague.
The Czech company held this event as a celebration of 25 years since they started cooperating with the Germans at Volkswagen, and a large crowd saw the new SUV from Skoda. As it was to be expected, Skoda took inspiration from their VisionS concept when it came to designing this new vehicle.

While the front and rear ends of the Skoda Kodiaq SUV were covered up, we could notice a set of LED daytime running lights in the front headlamps, as well as the car’s general silhouette.

The Czech automaker did not bother to camouflage the side profile, wheels, underbody cladding, and the side mirrors of this prototype, which is reportedly very close to production.

The new SUV was not showcased under the Kodiaq or Kodiak name (it is not yet known which designation will be the final one), but the license plate holder featured a card which wrote “A-Plus SUV.”

When asked about the name by the Brits at Autocar, Skoda representatives stated that the trademark has already been granted, but they need final approvals from authorities around the world. Reports say that the final decision will be announced soon.

Skoda’s biggest SUV will be built on the MQB platform of the Volkswagen Group, and it is expected to borrow the engine and transmission families of the latter. According to Czech media, Skoda built 47 prototypes of the new SUV in the development process, and their engineers have covered over 700,000 kilometers (435,000 miles) in testing.

The production version of Skoda’s new SUV will be unveiled this fall at the Paris Motorshow. The company is betting on their biggest model to gain new customers, but also to cater to the needs of existing clients. According to brand officials, the new SUV will attract younger customers to the brand thanks to its emotional design. Practical features will also be present, so the Kodiaq or Kodiak should satisfy pragmatic buyers as well.
