Skoda Has Produced 15 Million Cars

As far as automotive landmarks go, it doesn't get much better for Czech carmaker Skoda. An official announcement from Mlada Boleslav made today tells us the carmaker has produced its 15 millionth car ever, a brand new Octabia sedan.

The vehicle is fresh off the line and will be used by Skoda themselves as a VIP sedan for the technology Center in Cesana. The Octavia is in its third generation now, which is soon to be introduced in Germany and the Czech republic, while other markets will follow in coming weeks.

It was just let year when Skoda celebrated its 14th million car produced, a Superb 2.0 TDI. The company is well on its way towards achieving its sales growth targets for 2018, helped by an ever increasing lineup of new models.

“The entire Skoda team is very proud of the 15 million celebration,” says Skoda chairman of the board, Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “Producing 15 million cars is a symbol for the great development of the ŠKODA brand. We have been building vehicles for 118 years and automobiles since the year 1905. Thus we are among the automobile brands with the richest traditions in the world,” says Vahland. In the coming years, ŠKODA plans to continue to speed up development and sell at least 1.5 million vehicles per year by 2018. By launching the Citigo, Rapid and the new Octavia, the greatest model offensive in company's history has had a successful start. In total Skoda will launch eight new or facelifted models in 2013.
