I have just sold half of my Hot Wheels collection to raise a budget for my FC RX-7 project car. Asking decent prices helped me do that in less than 12 hours. However, I was still shocked at how fast people in the community reacted to my listing.
Hot Wheels cars are becoming more and more popular with each passing day,. You can choose from a vast selection of series and models. But some people still want something more unique for their collections. So, custom diecast artists are on the rise. Buying Mattel's Mainline products means you won't have to spend a considerable budget to enjoy them. But there are drawbacks: basic wheels and a minimum level of detail.

But who says you have to stop there? The custom diecast community could become a fully-fledged industry in a few years. It's a gateway to exclusivity: your $1 Hot Wheels can become a $500+ unique work of art. Most products are readily available through various manufacturers. But you can always try to make your parts. Creating a custom diecast is like working with a blank canvas: you can take the tiny vehicle as far as your vision or skills allow.

There are much fewer limitations than you'd face with a real car. And that becomes obvious once you look at some of Jakarta Diecast Artist's previous projects. This guy built an off-road-ready Lamborghini Aventador, a Rocket Bunny Tesla Model S Plaid, and an AWD Mazda RX3 with two engines, to name just a few. But his 6x6 projects are some of my favorites.

The last time he showcased a vehicle with so many wheels was a Chevrolet Silverado from Majorette. The six-wheeler Hot Wheels Toyota Van with a V12 engine was far crazier. And I still remember the Bentley Continental Supersport he created in 2022. And today, he has unveiled the newest creations, something I did not see coming. I've recently been interested in the 6x6 Humvee with a Hellcat engine inside.

And I've also just started an investigation on Hot Wheels Six-Wheelers (part two is coming up in a few days). But I didn't think I'd live the day when someone would turn a Shelby GT500 into a Safari-ready conqueror of dunes. Lindsey Lee designed this casting, which debuted in the 2020 Muscle Mania Mainline series. JDP uses the First Edition model in Metalflake Antimatter Blue with 10-spoke wheels as a base for his project.

But the wheels and paint job are the first things he gets rid of in the quest to build the ultimate Shelby GT500. The off-road-ready Samed Wheels cost $6 for two sets, which is not that expensive. It's fascinating to see how the artist extends the wheelbase and then works on his creation's subframe. The Parvus Models mirrors and roof rack make the tiny diecast vehicle look even more accurate, but it doesn't stop there. The final result looks like something you'd expect to see in the Sultan of Brunei's collection. And I wonder if Ford will ever follow in Porsche's footsteps in regards to building a Safari-worthy machine.
