Sergio Perez to Do F1 Demo Event in Guadalajara

Formula 1 will not come to Mexico any time soon, at least speaking from an official standpoint, but that isn't to mean the diehard F1 fans in the country won't get to see a real F1 challenger proving its worth in front of their eyes. In fact, it will happen as soon as this Sunday, on the streets of Mexican city Guadalajara.

And it will be local star Sergio Perez who will perform some demo runs at the wheel of Sauber's 2010-spec challenger, the C29, on a 1.5 kilometre-long temporary street circuit that will be located in the heart of the historic city.

Mexico is hugely excited about the coming season and it’s great we can offer the people an event like this in the run-up to it,” said Sergio Perez about the prospect of driving an F1 racer in front of a home crowd. The 21-year old driver is the first racer since Hector Rebaque (in 1981) to compete in Formula 1.

It will bring the whole thing to life for them by letting them see, feel and hear what Formula One is all about. And for me it’s a small way to express my thanks to the people for their support.

Perez' performance with the Sauber C29 will not conclude the demonstration event however, as his brother Antonio Perez is also set to be part of the show by venturing out in his NASCAR challenger alongside another Mexican stock-car racing driver German Quiroga. The event will be concluded by a vintage car parade and an autograph session with all 3 drivers.
