Formula One and motorsport fans from all over the world will commemorate twenty years since Ayrton Senna's tragic death tomorrow, but apparently this hasn't stopped people like Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo to try and somehow gain more exposure from the actual event.
One of the most snobbish and selfish press releases to come from Ferrari in recent years is in essence a big quote from Montezemolo, and parts of it are simply mind-boggling in a time like this, when fans of the greatness that was Ayrton Senna da Silva are in mourning over the twentieth commemoration of his death.

In short, in between phrases in which he honors the Brazilian and his legacy as both a driver and a person, Montezemolo manages to squeeze a decent amount of bragging about the fact that Senna had wanted to end his magnificent Formula One career at Ferrari.

“He wanted to come to Ferrari and I wanted him in the team. When he was in Italy for the San Marino Grand Prix, we met at my home in Bologna on Wednesday 27 April. He told me he really appreciated the stand we had taken against the excessive use of electronic aids for driving, which didn’t allow a driver’s skill to shine through. We spoke for a long time and he made it clear to me that he wanted to end his career at Ferrari, having come close to joining us a few years earlier.” Luca di Montezemolo says.

“We agreed to meet again soon, so as to look at how we could overcome his contractual obligations at the time. We were both in agreement that Ferrari would be the ideal place for him to further his career, which to date had been brilliant, even unique.” he continues.

Are we the only ones who believe that Montezemolo should maybe get off his prancing high horse and simply distance the Ferrari self-marketing show away from the commemoration of what was arguably the best F1 driver in history?
