Senna Defends Massa from Brazilian Media Attacks

With so many media attacks in Brazil directed at Ferrari's Felipe Massa, Bruno Senna, the nephew of arguable the greatest champion in the history of the South American country Ayrton, defended his fellow countryman in a recent interview.

Following the German Grand Prix, when Massa was ordered – indirectly, of course – by Ferrari to let his teammate Fernando Alonso pass him for victory, the Brazilian media pointed the finger at their favorite driver. Back then, some publications argued Brazil has had two types of racers in the history of F1, true champions and yes-men, and Massa is obviously not included in the first category.

While enjoying his summer break away from F1, Senna defended Massa, arguing that the Ferrari-an proved everybody that he can win a world championship two years ago.

I think it's very easy to judge when you're not in the person's skin. I think everyone does what he thinks is right at the time of the situation, and it's easy for an outsider to criticize,” said the HRT F1 driver in a recent interview with Brazilian reporters. He also insisted that Massa's struggles in 2010 are not the result of his inability to succeed, but the technical modifications of the sport in recent years.

They think it's easy – just more speed. But Formula One is a technical sport with very great variables. Massa has said he is having trouble warming up the tires, and it is really very difficult. Sometimes a car combines better with a particular driving style. Everyone has seen how good he is when he fought for a recent championship, so I think there's nothing to discuss,” added the 26-year old driver.
