SEAT, the Spanish brand in Volkswagen group’s portfolio, has expanded its collaboration with educational institutions: the automotive producer announced the signing of a four-year partnership with the University of Coruna.
The collaboration has the aim to promote research projects co-developed by Seat specialists and researchers from the university. The signing ceremony, held today at the SEAT design Centre in Martorell, saw the representatives of the two parts, Ramon Paredes, SEAT’s Vice President for Human Resources and Jose Maria Barja, the University of La Coruna’s Rector, marking the important moment.
“It is increasingly important for companies and universities to work together. Only by teaming up in a context of collaboration will we manage to make Spain a country of innovative companies and sustained employment,”said Paredes.
The carmaker’s first project developed with the University of La Coruna is a car concept that will be created by a team of 70 researchers and students of the famous Design College. The proposals for the study can be submitted by July - the two students that will have the best projects will be offered a training stage at the SEAT Design Centre.
The latest concept car from SEAT, the IBE, was presented last week at the Geneva Auto Show. The IBE is a coupe that measures 3,78 meters in length, 1.8 meres in width and is 1.22 meters tall. The car is powered by an electric motor that develops 102 HP and 200 Nm of torque (the unit’s continuous power output is limited to 68 HP). Recent rumors show that the Spanish carmaker could produce a series version of the IBE with the support of a government environmental incentive scheme.
