Scuderi Engine Getting Ready for Second Gen

Back at the beginning of the year, we all learned a thing or two about the Scuderi split engine, a type of internal combustion engine in which each of the cylinders (regardless of the number of cylinders) is in charge with performing four tasks, one after the other: intake, compression, power, and exhaust.

The company developing the engine, Scuderi, announced today it had filed new patents for the next generation of the unit, one they call Scuderi V. The new unit will enter testing in January next year.

The completion of the tests is expected to occur about one year later. Currently, the previous generation engine has been tested on a Chevrolet Cavalier, while a brand new 2011 unnamed compact car produced in Japan has been purchased to test the second generation of the engine.

The new patents filed by Scuderi cover engine cylinder configuration, modular crossover passages, crossover passage manifolds and associated air reservoir valve assemblies, and thermal regulations systems.

"This new engine design enables us to demonstrate the real benefits of having a Scuderi Engine in a vehicle, an engine that can achieve better power, lower emissions and higher fuel-efficiency, all at a competitive cost to produce gasoline-powered vehicles today," said the company.

"The V-shape expands the design possibilities for our engine.  We continue to share updates with the OEMs and are confident as additional data is released, the advantages of the Scuderi engine will be fully realized."
