Scion FR-S Concept Leaked Ahead of New York Debut

Automakers just can’t seem to keep a lid on their expensive new concepts and production-ready cars in the era of the Internet. All it takes is a few clicks, and the whole world would get to see the product of all that hard work before a single camera flash is seen.

The story here is that a pair of photos showing the Scion FR-S Concept have been revealed, thanks to the efforts of SpeedHunters, indicating that the long-awaited Toyota FT-86 will indeed arrive under the Scion bade if and when the sportscar will ever reach dealers’ lots.

From the looks of things, this is just a slightly more understated version the FT-86 II Concept we saw under the lights at Geneva, as is usually the case when it comes to Toyora-Scion models. We actually like this a lot better, as the silly-looking LED accents have been removed from the nose and all the features look more better for a production model.
Some of that eclectic features have been lost in favor of sleek lines and broad shoulders - just the think for a sports coupe.

However, we would have been perfectly happy if the FT-86 II Concept seen in Geneva was put into production, so it’s time that Toyota put a reliable, affordable product into production and stop messing with the aesthetics. This doesn’t seem to be the case, as the Scion shown here has wheels too big to be production-ready and miniscule side mirrors, plus a really silly rear valance that looks like it came from a sci-fi movie.

The first FT-86 concept was shown at the Tokyo Motor Show way back in 2009, so Toyota should really hurry with this, before every customer out there jumps into the new Beetle.
